Nasi Ayam Bu WIdo

It was that one evening when I had a sudden craving for nasi ayam (Javanese chicken rice). After long hours of teaching, it would be appropriate to end the day with one pincuk of nasi ayam--my all-time favorite childhood meal. I managed to persuade my health conscious hubby to eat out even though it was past dinner time. The best choice would be nowhere but Nasi Ayam Bu Wido.

Having been around for over 20 years, Nasi Ayam Bu WIdo is the most trustworthy nasi ayam place for me. My mom, who used to live in Brumbungan, told me that Bu Wido started selling nasi ayam door to door when she was little. Now, the business has grown to be one of the most popular nasi ayam street vendors in Semarang.

Only priced at IDR 7000 per pincuk (a serving dish made from folded banana leaves), you'll get a filling portion of coconut rice served with bits of chicken, tofu, half-boiled egg, sambal goreng jipang and krecek (spicy buffalo skin cracker and chayote cooked in coconut milk), kuah opor (the soup of chicken cooked in coconut milk) and areh (thick coconut milk broth). It's savory, spicy, and mildly sweet flavor is extremely addictive and comforting.

Some prefer to eat the meal accompanied by chicken innards (intestine, heart, liver) satay, or quail egg satay. Since it was late in the evening, I restrained myself from eating beyond one pincuk of rice (good girl ^^).

Don't you want to try this tonight?
